Every school must have a safeguarding policy (often referred to as a child protection policy).  Our school follows National and Local guidance.  The aim of the policy is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard your children from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and well-being of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of our school’s work. 

Having the policy in place ensures that all members of our school community:

• Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
• Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern
• Are aware of the key indicators in relation to child abuse
• Fully support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Where possible the school will share any concerns that they hold with the parents unless doing so could possibly place the child at risk of further harm.

Where concerns have been identified or disclosed by a child or children, the school has a duty of care to make a referral to formal agencies so these concerns can be investigated.  The two main agencies responsible for any such investigation are Social Services and the Police.  

The school has Designated Safeguarding Persons (DSP’s) with responsibility for child protection within the school.  The designated person is Mrs Learne Harris, the deputy designated persons are Mrs Gunter, Mrs Morgan, Mrs Bowen and Mrs Robinson.

The nominated governor for child protection is Mrs Debbie Spencer.
